How does the encryption work?

Files are encrypted in your browser before being sent to our servers. Our servers only ever see encrypted bytes, so even Kagisuru administrators cannot read your files.

Are there size or retention limits?

Your cloud storage is capped at 2GB in total. Within that limit, there is no per-file size restriction. ZIP archives are also supported.
Files are automatically deleted 7 days after sending, so if you hit the limit, wait for older files to be removed or delete unneeded files manually.

Do my receivers also need a Kagisuru account?

Your receivers do not need to sign up in advance. When they enter the 6-digit verification code to open the file, an account is created automatically if they do not have one. No information other than an email address is required.

Can I use this instead of password-protected ZIP files?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Sending a password-protected ZIP through the same channel as the password defeats the purpose, and ZIP passwords have limited strength anyway. Kagisuru does not use passwords — receivers open files via email verification, which is safer and simpler.

Can encrypted files be blocked by a virus scanner and fail to arrive?

No. Files are stored encrypted on the server, and once your receivers verify their own email address and retrieve a file, it is decrypted in their browser and saved as a normal file. Because decryption happens on the receiver's device, their virus scanner works as usual, so the file is never blocked.
